Astra Studio Receives Four Industry Dance Award Recognitions Following EnerGy Competition

OLD SAYBROOK, CT — Astra Studio of Dance & Performing Arts received four 2026 Industry Dance Award recognitions following the studio’s performances at the EnerGy National Dance Competition regional event in Springfield April 24–26.
 
The studio was recognized in the following categories:

  • Best Open/Acro/BalletEmpires
  • Best Musical Theatre/Character/NoveltyWillkommen
  • Best TapI Will Survive
  • People’s ChoiceStairway to Heaven
 
The Industry Dance Awards recognize outstanding performances from competitions across the country, with selected routines advancing into consideration for official national nominations later this season.
 
Online voting for the People’s Choice category will take place from June 26 through July 11.
 
Dancers recognized in the nominated routines include:
 
Old Saybrook: Emma Chapin, Mae Chapin, Kora Chapman, Chloe Durbin, Emily Durbin, Abigail Goddard, Shelby Pauloski, Addison Payne
Westbrook: Julia DeSousa
Clinton: Emilia Alvarez, Molly George

Old Lyme: Zoë Brunza
Essex: Lyrical Hupkau
 
“These routines represent so much hard work, artistry, and heart from our dancers and faculty,” said Artistic Director Brittany Wigglesworth. “We are incredibly proud of our dancers for the way they continue to grow not only technically, but as performers and teammates.”
 
The recognitions come during Astra Studio’s 10th Anniversary Season. The studio, located in Old Saybrook, serves dancers ages 2 and up throughout the Connecticut shoreline region and offers training in ballet, jazz, tap, lyrical, acro, hip hop, musical theatre, and competitive dance.
 
Astra Studio’s annual recital, Diamond Dreams: A Decade of Brilliance, will take place on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Valley Regional High School.
